Sugata(configuration) : Shinogi-zukuri, Iori-mune. Mihaba is wide, Upper FUKURA in full. The shape is heroically brave and broad-minded, leading to a large tip kissaki, massive in hand and well-proportioned blade which holds an almost original shape during the passage of 300 years. 
Kitae(forging pattern) : Kitae-hada is conspicuous Itame-hada (wooden grain) and Mokume (burl marks) mixing in with streaming grain mark, there shows straight MASAME grain indication on Shinogi-ji surface. Hiraji is covered in Ji-nie that generates Chikei hard metal granules reflection effect over the surface. The entire steel shows darkish impression so called Echizen-steel.
Hamon(tempering pattern) : Hamon forms generally Gunome-Choji (zigzag-clove outline), mixing in with sharpened Togari-ha. Upper the blade, stronger, brighter Nie hard metal granules and wider the temper, where interior is activated with Sunagashi blushing marks and Choji-feet that emit to the cutting edge. The entire temper is vividly bright and clear. Generous sight.
Boshi (tip): The temper of the tip irregularly waves into then calms into straight, brushing up then small circle turns back.
Nakago(tang) : UBU in original. two mekugi-ana retaining holes. Shallow Katte-sagari (slightly slanting leftward) file mark. The shape of bottom is Round (KURIJIRI).
The first smith KANETANE, had came from Seki-Mino province to Echizen (now in Fukui pref.) along with their family lineage such as KANENORI to accept the invitation by a feudal lord ASAKURA late 16th century, lived in Ichijodani. The subject Wakizashi is made on about 1700 by the 4th generation KANETANE in Echizen (Now in Fukui pref.). It is understood that this blade was mabe by a special order to hold such an aggressive shape with such an original koshirae of choice quality. An original black stone surface STREAM scabbard Koshirae upgrade it's dignity and value, consists of white ray-skin yellowish green cord wrap hilt, Fuchi/Kashira is Shakudo Nanako-ji Plum tree motif TAKABORI gold,silver Iroe inlay, Menuki pair is made of Suaka copper Peony flower, Scabbard is black stone dry-lacquered STREAM patterns (back ridge is repaired), Kozuka is Shakudo Nanako-ji AYU (sweetfish) and Kogatana utility knife is signed [Kiku-crest Tanba-no-kami YOSHIMICHI]. This Wakizashi is heavy on hand, massive and heroic still to remains an impressively excellent condition for the age of 300 years old. A complete set of blade and koshirae recalls almost original shape and brilliance of steel. The blade is elaborately fresh polish and set in a new shirasaya mounting.
An old original copper double layers Habaki collar, upper shell is gold plated and lower shell is shakudo ground clouds patterns.
