Sugata(configuration) : Hira-zukuri, Iori-mune. There is a slight negative curve. The base is extremely thick, even upper thickness is massive. The entire dagger is powerfully made for stabbing. (click HERE for super sized image)
Kitae(forging pattern) : Kitae-hada is Itame wooden grains mark mixing in with straight grain marks.
Hamon(tempering pattern) : Hamon is Nioi based Gunome zigzag pattern which is well-ordered, in which interior is active with Gunome feet.
Boshi (tip): The temper of the tip becomes calm to be straight then small circle turns back.
Nakago(tang) : The tang is originally unsigned, Deeply slanted left (O-sujikai) with horizontal (Kesho) filemarks and round kurijiri heel. One mekugi-ana peg hole.
A maker smith Tango-no-kami JUMYO, real name Kondo Sukesaemon came from Mino province to Owari in the 5th year of Kanei (1628), as the restorer frontier JUMYO school in Shinto-period. a name of JUMYO means [long life prosperity], therefore Samurai family or citizens cherished the work of JYMYO. This dagger is direct from an old warehouse and just got an appraisal at NBTHK, therefore there is some slight scratch marks or insignificant stains on surface and also there is a loosen grain mark in front.
Another highlight of this tanto is the original Koshirae fitting that consists of Autumn maple leaves brown stone surface lacquered sheath, Fuchi, Kashira and Kojiri Iron set of three is Clematis flower/karakusa arabesque silver inlay, Hilt is white rayskin, leather lozenge wrap, menuki shakudo ground Yobori flower cart, Iron Tsuba silver drops inlay and Kozuka Shakudo Nanako-ji surface, Takabori, gold inlay Peach tree (Kogatana knife signed Oumi-no-kami MUNETOSHI) (click HERE for details of each part image).
Now it is quite rare to come across such tanto which directly from an old warehouse.The current condition of this tanto is in good - very good condition (using a scale of mint-excellent-very good-good-fair-poor) condition.
