| Sugata(configuration) : Shinogi-zukuri, Iori-mune. Mihaba on base is wide
and there is shallow curve leading to an extended middle tip. The blade
is massive and wide in Hiraji. (click HERE for higher resolution) Kitae(forging pattern) : Kitae-hada is fine and tight Itame-hada (wooden grain) and the swelling masame hada pattern is mixing in. Hamon(tempering pattern) : Hamon is wide gunome (zigzag) temper line. The edge of temper line is covered in thick and bright hard metal granules so called NIE and the interior of temper is filled in deep mist of NIOI. There is an activity of thick ASHI feet toward the cutting edge and SUNAGASHI brushing marks appear in the interior of temper. Boshi (tip): The temper of the tip is irregular outline, mixing in with brushing out indication (HAKIKAKE). Nakago(tang) : Unaltered (UBU) and one original peg retaining hole. Filemark is slanted (Osujikai) and Kesho horizontal. Nice taste of patina and remains clear marks of original filemarks. Ha-agari Round heel shape. Smith Takahashi NOBUHIDE was born in Izumo province and had learned from his father-in-law Takahashi NAGANOBU in Iyo province, where he acquired FYUHIRO style Soshu technique then joined to Gassan Sadaichi school in his later period. This katana includes an original uchigatana koshirae set of mounts comprising : brown stone finish surface lacquered sheath, Iron tsuba is MAGATAMA ritual motif openwork, Silver dragon nunome inlay and silver fukurin rim, Menuki hilt ornaments is Kozuka and Kougai set design of which material is shakudo with KIRI design gold inlay. Fuchi/kashira is large iron ground sukibori plaw, Wave and gold full moon design. Silver foiled Seppa collars and copper habaki, all those parts and material are in original and remains an excellent original condition for it's age. Shirasaya plain wood mounting included |
