Sugata(configuration) : Shinogi-zukuri, Iori-mune. Osuriage substantially shortened. Mihaba on base is wide standing firmly on base and less degree of tapering from base to point leading to a medium Kissaki.(click HERE for the high resolution image)
Kitae(forging pattern) : Kitae is Ko-Itame (fine wooden grain), mixing with Mokumehada wares. Sparkling hard metal granules of Ji-nie appears and it gives off diffused reflection with a slight mottled effect so called "Rai-Utsuri".
Hamon(tempering pattern) : Hamon is Ko-nie a bit on stronger side Nie based, wide Suguha straight line with slight Notare that consists of delicate Gunome indication. The interior of hamon is filled with limpid Nioi where delicate Ashi frequently appears.
Boshi (tip): Boshi forms gentle medium circle with Niju-ha activity, medium circle turns back shortly.
Nakago(tang) : The tang is substantially shortened O-suriage. Two Mekugi-ana retaining holes. Slightly leftward file marks Katte-sagari.

The subject tachi created in an archaic style is recently attributed as a work of Echizen Rai 越前来 from Nanbukucho period 14th C. Although Nakago was substantially shortened to be an O-suriage unsigned, it stands firmly on base, still holds a highly defined curve near the base, generous curved - unrestricted shape with an extended Kissaki is a clear statement of it's age from Nanbokucho period. Forging with carefully selected fine steel under traditional Yamashiro tradition from Rai school generates Rai-Utsuri mottled reflection like a mist hung over the forest.

Rai KUNIYASU 来国安 - childhood name of Chiyotsuru 千代鶴 who goes by the name of Echizen Rai 越前来 is said a grandson of Rai KUNITOSHI 来国俊 and a son of Rai MUNISUE 来国末. He moved to Echizen province in his golden age during Teiji era(1632-) to meet with increasing demand.
