It is upheaval days in Nanbokucho period that the production of MINO swords began its rise to power, sword-makers moved from other nations to the Mino area and started production. Rapid rise was shown from the end Kamakura to the Nanbokucho period for about 60 years and great sword smith Shizu Kaneuji came into existence. During the Warning States Period on after Ounin era 15th century, a great number of sword-makers had moved to Seki town from Naoe or Akasaka area corresponding to request of powerful feudal lords, using the material of fine quality, first-class work, taking pride in the top cutting performances sublimating into art. Representative sword smith KANESADA was a frontier to enjoy Izumi-no-kami title from Emperor, which was not seen for the sword-makers in other nations at this time.The subject katana by KANETAKA was active from Eiroku to Bunroku period (1550-1595) and had enjoyed the title of Harima-no-kami. It is long and wide in mihaba, thick in Kasane and high shinogi-ridge, full in upper monouchi area, holding heroic shape and heavy on hands. Use high quality material forged elaborately and carefully generating fine Mokume hada (burl) grain marks, that is covered in sparkling Ji-nie hard metal granules. Darkish Chikei Nie lines boils out. Temper is Ko-nie glitter based Notare wavy based, mixing in gunome with frequent feet, Omote-side shows some temper marks split over the surface (Tobiyaki). The entire blade is impressively massive and shows superb technique of KANETAKA that remains an excellent condition, holding brave Samurai spirits.
