Sugata(configuration) : Hira-zukuri, Iori-mune. Long tanto with shallow curve, There is chiselled half way Bo-hi grooves on both sides. 
Kitae(forging pattern) : Kitae-hada is fine Itame wooden grain marks mixing in with flowing streams.
Hamon(tempering pattern) : Hamon is fairy Nie based, -gunome, sharpened up outline, round head cloves line, that vaies in height and shape where Sunagashi shick nie lines streams across head of gunome. The whole temper gives off vivid and bright shining.
Boshi (tip): The temper of the tip generate profiile of round face so called JIZOU Boshi then deeply turns back on the back ridge.
Nakago(tang) : UBU,V-shape heel shape and O-sujikai (greatly slanting left) filemarks. Two mekugi-ana peg holes.
This tanto signed KANETOMI is judged as work of Muromachi period middle of 16th century, from is shape, patina taste of tang and an archaic style of signature. Second letter "TOMI" means good luck, fortune or prosperity so that this tanto has been treasued by generations. Also accompnaying Red pearl of inlay scabbard TAKASAGO Noh scene Koshirae consists of TAGAYASAN hard wood hilt with TAKASAGO Noh scene shakudo TSUTSUGANE barrel, KURIKATA made of Iron - Houju jewel, FUNDOU balance and KOZUCHI-small mallet, SAGURI dragon ornament on scabbard. Tsuba is Iron ground, little cuckoo scene gold/silver inlay. Iro ground Kozuka/Kogai A crane, mice with fan scene. A complete set of both Tanto blade and Koshirae fitting are harminized wll as a theme "Good Luck fortune". There is a grain opening mark in the middle of front side.
