Sugata(configuration) : Shinogi-zukuri, Iori-mune. Wide in Mihaba throughout from base to tip. The shinogisuji ridge is high compared with back ridge. Yokote ridge locates lower generating an extremely wide tip, brave and heroic construction.(click HERE for super sized image)
Kitae(forging pattern) : Kitae-hada is conspicuous Itame wooden grain marks mixing in with large mokube burl, swirl so called Norishige (matsukawa) hada-ware. Outstanding forging marks generates from an abyss of steel and the surface covered in thick Nie hard metal granules. The shinogi-ji shows flowing hada-ware indication.
Hamon(tempering pattern) : Hamon is strong Nie based, small-gunome, clove outline and Togari-ha that varies in shape and patterns. The temper gives off bright light that works with Inazuma thunder, kinsen gold lines indication vividly active with Nie-activity.
Boshi (tip): The temper of the tip comes in irregular gunome-midare. Yubashiri hard-metal granules area, Kinsen bright lines and Sunagashi bluising lines activity. Hakikake ends (no-return indication).
Nakago(tang) : Suriage cut off the tang unsigned, Shallow round end heel shape and Kiri horizontal filemarks. Two mekugi-ana.
SANEKAGE in Echu province, a pupil of smith NORISHIGE who is one of Ten Genius smiths leared from the greatest master smith MASAMUNE. SANEKAGE sublimated and practiced the genuine Soshu school technique into the real demands from Samurais. Mixing in with different components, hard and soft steel materials, durable but proud of the height of the best cutting performance.The subject heroic Nagamaki Katana which was popularly made during Nanbokucho period, is supposed that it's tang was cut off to be suitable for Uchi-Katana syle use during Momoyama period (early 17 th century). This katana has been fresh polish and recently send to the judgement by NBTHK - SANEKAGE (Tokubets Hozon Certificate).
It is quite rare to come across the katana under genuine Soshu-school workmanship and Swirl hada-ware is impressively admired. *The ancient shira-saya sheath shows an Sayagaki writing saying that Red-lacquerd as Houjouji KUNIMITSU in 1744 (The first year of Enkyo).
Old shirasaya with Sayagaki writing has been entirely cleaned and made the silver Shishi-me style habaki collar.
